So, Saturday I'm off to the parents house. Tomorrow night M's parents are coming down, stopping the night and then heading back to the midlands. I'm having a meal with him, his parents and his grandparents, then off to endure whatever mishaps my parents house will hold. I'm incredibly anxious about it all, because it's not been the best year financially for them, and they can't deal with stress in any productive way (I can see where I get my flailing from). Sooo I'm anticipating stress.

I'm only there until boxing day, then back up here and work on Thursday. Yaay. Will have some time to myself to decompress after Christmas as I'm not sure when M's coming back but it won't be the same day as me, so yeah.

The short story is, I'm not going to have guaranteed/great access to the Internet until Wednesday evening, so:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I hope you all have brilliant weekends/holidays, Christmas, if you celebrate it.

I'm looking forward to the actual day - I love playing with the kids and helping set things up (we all clubbed together to get them a wii with all assorted bits and pieces, they're going to be so excited!). It's just the run up with everyone stressing out that's going to be awful.

I'm not going to be watching Merlin, as I haven't at all, and I'm not ready at all for the end, but I'm not that fussed about spoilers? So there's that. I'm feeling a bit distanced from fandom in general, but I think that's because of RL, so after Christmas I think I'll be fine.

I've signed up for hp_kinkfest again! Got an awesome Remus/Sirius prompt, because otp <3. I'll do more writing after the holidays.

Anyway, love to you all! See you on the otherside!

hihi!

thank you to everyone who posted on my last post - I will reply to comments but I haven't had time/have been feeling utter crap today, so not got around to it yet. I am emailing the guy about the job tonight, so that's fun/nerve-wracking :D?

I am 99% sure my feeling crap is self-inflicted. Went out for drinks last night, got a bit drunk, stomach responded spectacularly a couple of hours later and I did not have a fun walk home. I've felt nauseated all day :( I've never had this reaction to alcohol before (otherwise I wouldn't have drunk that much).

I've made my fandom twitter private - comment or add me or whatever, I am totally open to adding people, just paranoid - I am applying for a job at a tech/web company, their google-fu might be strong, so am trying to distance RL from fandom, which I hate doing, but its something I feel I should do :(

TW hols fic is basically finshed :DDD

Merlin with his sleeves rolled up ♥

Albion is full of depressing place names

I am not happy with the Arthur/Gwen soppiness. I like it, but I would've liked it more if this was less sudden.

I am taking 'Merlin is in the tavern' to mean Arthur thinks Merlin is with Gwaine.

I love how confused Gaius is that Arthur can't dress himself.

Apples! <3

[insert Admiral Ackbar.jpeg here]

Come on, Arthur. You must be disgusted by his treatment of Morgana and Aithusa.

Ah, evil Gwen there you are. Losing all subtlety there then

Merlin DDDDD:

Suspicious Gaius is suspicious

All in all - all filler, no killer. Par for the course. Hopefully the next few eps will be more together.

anyone have any clues on this cultbox announcement about Merlin at midnight?

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! <3

Knitting!

Now I've finished my paperlegends I'm taking a bit of a break before working on my Sherlock WIP. I've sort of been wanting to write something silly and utterly self-indulgent, but there' a lack of plot bunnies hopping around my mind (prompt welcome!), so I've turned back to knitting.

I'm knitting this:

http://jwgh.livejournal.com/475358.html

Isn't he adorable? I've chosen a deep red, because I've got a lot of that yarn, and it was cheap, so it's my default 'testing' yarn. If it work out I might do more in a different colour. This'll be the biggest non-scarf thing I've ever knitted :D

It feels like a while since I've posted anything, or maybe it's because I actually have news, rather than [whine writing whine etc]?

I am now supervisor at work! :DDD More money, more authority, more responsibility (that's not a bad thing, though). I'm really pleased.

It's my incompetent co-worker's last week next week! Three days of working with her (and finally having the authority to say something when she skives off, which is ALL THE TIME). It's going to be hellishly busy when she's gone but the atmosphere at work is terrible right now (which is the worst. Everyone comments on how good we are as a team and then we have her fucking it all up), so I'm chalking it up as a win.

I've had some anxiety inducing family stuff going on, which is mostly resolved now, which is a huge weight off my shoulders.

My family is coming to visit on Monday, which will hopefully be nice.

Paperlegends is actually coming on well, I'm feeling much better about finishing it/posting it.

I'm considering putting up another music post soon, but I'm not sure on a theme/genre/whatever, any requests?

WEEKEND! WINE! M is making me watch James Bond but I'll be working on paperlegends so I'll survive :P

How are you, flist? Tell me how you've been! I've been feeling disconnected because I've been feeling bad for doing things that aren't RL or paperlegends related.

Reading!

So my book review site failed epically, because I fail /o\. But I do want to keep a bit of a record of what I've read this year.

So far (in order):

Snow Crash
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Maus (Graphic Novel)
The Millennium Trilogy
The Hunger Games Trilogy

9 books in 6 months isn't bad going, I don't think. I've enjoyed all of them immensely, but I'm definitely on the lookout for something more upbeat next time - I found the Hunger Games quite hard to get though.

The only thing I have on my to-read list for definite is Neverwhere, but I'm not sure if I want to read that next. Will have to go through our books and find something to read tomorrow.

She has a new album coming out soon! I've listened to some of it and I'm really loving it. Under the cut is a video for 'All The Rowboats', which is lovely.

It's their own fault for being timeless )

I first heard her in 2000 and was pretty much blown away my her lyrics and her talent. A couple more of my favourite songs under here:

This weekend I'm off to see a Dave Gorman gig, which I'm totally looking forward to. We were going to the Manchester Day parade, but it's the same day as the gig, and the weather is atrocious here, so we might hibernate instead!

Anyone got any plans this weekend?

*hugs* to you all!

Sorry if you see this twice - had issues with getting it to post.

Comment on this post with ‘Hit me, Gem, one more time!' and I'll give you seven things I want you to talk about. They may make sense or they may be very random. Then post that list to your journal with your commentary. Other people can get lists from you and the meme merrily perpetuates itself

I've got a meme questions post in the works but the questions are thought provoking and hard and stuff, so have a not!post

Dance party!

A whole week to do with what I want.

Plans:

CityGames. A section of Manchester is cordoned off and things like hurdles, pole vault, and 100m sprint are held there, with professional athletes.

Writing (Sherlock ReBang OMG)

Knitting (soft toys for my co-workers baby)

Cleaning (my flat is a shit hole, it's shameful)

Seeing a Robin Ince gig

Nothing else. Not even the smallest thing.

Hope everyone's week has been alright! Has anyone got plans for the weekend?

So, I'm planning my Merlin big bang at the moment, and it's ...odd. I don't normally plan. Anyone who's ever beta'd for me will know that what I start off writing and the finished product can be almost entirely different things.

I write ideas as they come and then mould, edit, and shift them to where they fit as my ideas evolve. I write scenes out of order, leave them half finished to jump to another idea I've had - it's surprising anything I produce makes sense. I feel for anyone who betas for me, I really do.

But I'm planning this fic. Timelines, character backgrounds, scenes, the works. I tried to write some the other day, and I came to something I hadn't figured out, and I stopped and went to plan it out. Which felt odd. Normally I would just breeze through it, put a and move on, but I couldn't here. I had to go plan (incidentally, I'm using scrivener at the moment - it's very good isn't it? Not sure I'll be able to afford the full amount come the end of my trial. I might have to see if there are any alternatives anywhere.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm worried I'll forget things during the long slog of writing it, or because paperlegends hasn't started yet, or just because I'm paranoid I won't hit the word count (never mind the deadline), but apparently I now have to plan everything for this fic. Which means my cheerleader is getting a lot of flailing from me.

Tell me flist, are you a planner or a just write and see what happens-er?

So, I'm watching the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film again, and while the Sherlockian in me is screaming a bit at the flagrant bastardisation of canon, my heart is stupidly in love with these two. Like, I have a ridiculous smile on my face, because I love the friendship there (they totally love each other, I never ship them so hard as I do in this verse), I love how badass Watson is, I love the banter.

Apart from the scene where Holmes has hired the fortune teller to tell Watson's future (the warts!). Because that's silly :P

Look at the pretty )
I have a total suit/hat fetish, and this film does things to me. I don't find these two that attractive normally but hnnngh. Especially in HD, om nom. I'm really looking forward to the next one. I can't wait to see Fry!Croft.
