CAN YOU BELIEVE ITS ALMOST CHRISTMAS? I swear we skipped November entirely. I've got two more presents to pick up tomorrow, then I'm all done. Just got to tidy around and pack, ready for heading back on saturday. I'm heading back on boing day (day after christmas day for non-brits), because I'm in work the 27th, so it will be a short but still exhausting holiday. I'm sort of looking forward to it, but also nervous because it's a complete unknown, so that's worrying. It'll be fine, I can just hide out with my siblings if all else fails.

I asked on twitter but I'm going to ask here: recs for longish fics? I'll have the internet but it will be spotty and I'll be on my ipod with the crap battery, so I'm going to download as many as possible to read offline to keep me sane while I'm at home. Merlin/Sherlock/Teen Wolf. I'm not fussy with pairings.

Also I am trying to write a Teen Wolf AU where Stiles works a palm reader and Derek works as [something I haven't figured out yet] in a carnival and there is palm reading and maybe a spot of touch starved Derek, and pining and boys in love? I have no time to write this week but lets see what happens. It is all hermette's fault as she prompted it on twitter and the next thing I know I've spent three hours researching palmistry.

Time to load up the ipod with christmas stuff to get me in the mood, I think :) Favourite christmas song?

Last but not least, The Darkness

It's called Avalon by Prof. Green ft. Sierra Kusterbeck and as far as I'm concerned is about Arthur and Merlin (and their epicness).

Look at the lyrics:
Its time to even it up, I guess a round table weren't equal enough
You can't contain me with chains I'm free and I run free
Any enemy is coming with me when im done
Whatever's asked to me I perform,
I rip through the rain into the eye of the storm,
Still carrying the flame, eye of the torch,
Failure comes at a price I can't afford,
Never been half hearted I put my all in,

and

We'll be kings forever, oh oh oh,
Holding on together, oh oh oh,
Feeling so much better oh oh oh,
When everything was wrong and everything was gone
We ran to Avalon.

I want to read some kind of epic reincarnation fic now...

One of my favourite artists, Scroobius Pip did a remix of a Grimes song, the original is called Oblivion, the remix is called No nimbus, and both videos are under the cut.

More awesome female vocalist music for you:

Lights Alive

Sort of rock, but with a synth/ambient edge. Very awesome, and you can download a 6 track album for free!

Also, I've been meaning to reply to comments but I basically fail, but the female vocalist post I did here has got some awesome stuff in the comments. Seriously, everyone has fantastic taste!

<3 to you all

She has a new album coming out soon! I've listened to some of it and I'm really loving it. Under the cut is a video for 'All The Rowboats', which is lovely.

It's their own fault for being timeless )

I first heard her in 2000 and was pretty much blown away my her lyrics and her talent. A couple more of my favourite songs under here:

After me comes the flood )

This weekend I'm off to see a Dave Gorman gig, which I'm totally looking forward to. We were going to the Manchester Day parade, but it's the same day as the gig, and the weather is atrocious here, so we might hibernate instead!

Anyone got any plans this weekend?

*hugs* to you all!

Sorry if you see this twice - had issues with getting it to post.

Comment on this post with ‘Hit me, Gem, one more time!' and I'll give you seven things I want you to talk about. They may make sense or they may be very random. Then post that list to your journal with your commentary. Other people can get lists from you and the meme merrily perpetuates itself

[insert whine about writing here]

Moving on! Fun. is a and I've heard about many times from many people, but it was always when I was checking my flist or twitter when I couldn't check out the videos, and then I'd forget, lather, rinse, repeat.

BUT they've finally hit the UK with their first single and I am in love.

We are Young )

I have listened to some (read: two, because I have no life outside of work RN) other tracks of the album (Some Nights), and it seems very autotune-y. I'm sort of going hmm...but I did that before I fell in love with this song, so I'm assuming the rest will follow as well.

Any recommendations for songs of theirs I definitely should listen to?

I want to write all the angst-y fic, now. All of it.

But not sorry enough to stop!

So, the UK's version of The Voice started this staurday, and I already have feelings for this show ugh it's everything I want in a talent show. Respectful, playful, and full of, well, talent.

This is how the judges came out at the start of the show (the video is a bit stuttery but can't find an better one *shakes fist*

Vid under the cut )

Yes, that's Will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jomes and Danny O'Donoghue of The Script singing I've Got A Feeling.

My reaction:

How awesome are these people? How? Yeah, the song doesn't quite fit all of their voices but look at how much fun they're having, and the audience as well. ♥___♥

Also also: UK people. Once Upon A Time starts on Channel Five (*cringe*) on Sunday at 9pm.

Now to do some writing!

This week I've mostly been listening to dubstep, but with some rock thrown in. Going back to my roots as an angry teenager who loved to dance to high energy music. ETA: Genre confusion is because I have no idea what genre dubstep/rock/high energy/some electro thrown in is actually called. So there's some of all of the previous. Enjoy!

Bit different from the fare I've had up here to this point, but I'm still going to share, just because I'm loving them.

vids under the cut )

Didn't pick up the new glasses (god knows who called me then - called during work from a withheld number and haven't called back since!).

What's everyone's plans for the weekend?
blue_eyed_1987: (Default)
How much do I love this song by Stooshe? And the girls themselves, and the video, and Travie?

So much! *boogies*

I adore covers. I love hearing different interpretations of songs. Sometimes it doesn't work (The recent covers of Run, Hallelujah, and Cannonball come to mind), but it's still interesting to hear. My main 'source' of covers is BBC Radio One's live lounge, which (for those that don't know) is a session on Radio One where artists are invited to sing acoustic versions of one of their own songs and a cover of another.

I love it when bands take a song and just go completely left field with it - some people might call it blasphemy, but it's a form of fanlove, in a way, and so even if I don't personally like it, I can't bring myself to completely hate it, if it's done from a position of love, you know? I have lots of feelings about covers, essentially. The same things go for remixes and such.

So, this week I've mainly been listening to covers:

Vids under the cut )

To save everyone's bandwidth (and because this got so long), I've made youtube playlist here. Never used this before! Let me know if it doesn't work. I'll be adding more as I think of them/find them/suggestions come in :)

Share your favourite covers!

It's been a while since I've shared something musical I've enjoyed recently, so: Rizzle Kicks. Sortof hip-hoppy, but also a bit pop.

They look adorkable:

And sound like this video with bonus James Corden appearance under the cut )
And are just unashamedly happy and dorky and wonderful. Their music is nothing if not catchy.

It's friiiday! Does anyone have any plans for the weekend?

My latest musical obsession: Emeli Sande

She has a degree in medicine and neuroscience, and sounds like this:-

Her voice kick ass. Really looking forward to her album coming out.

Weeekend! What are everyone's plans? I plan to mostly hibernate, knit and get some writing done.
